Three levels of a name: brand, family, model

A short name can organise a page while remaining too broad to support a specification.

A short name can organise a page while remaining too broad to support a specification.

A brand organises coverage

GeekBar, Foger and Alibarbar are the subjects of this journal. Their desk pages connect related articles. They do not create one specification that can be applied to every device carrying the same name.

A family connects nearby records

Family terminology makes an archive easier to navigate. It is not proof that every suffix or market version shares the same parts or operating conditions. Use the family as a relationship between files while keeping the individual identities intact.

A model supports a specific statement

The strongest source trail pairs the full designation with a dated page, label or instruction document. The clearer that pairing is, the easier it becomes to correct a sentence when new evidence arrives. A familiar photograph alone cannot establish the identity of a separate unit.

Read with the right level in mind

Before carrying a statement from one article to another, ask which level of the name it describes. This small check prevents a directory description from being mistaken for a model finding. The model register preserves separate files for this reason.
