From the perspective of women involved in pop culture, we can say – here in the Last Tavern – that we enjoy the constantly growing number of female names on posters and in the end credits of various productions. We know that there is still a lot to do on this topic, but we all see that something is slowly changing. This is some beginning.
In the production of entertainment, there is still a lot of room for really talented women. The same should be true of rewarding their hard work at various contests and awards. So we wish all women of the film and series creative freedom, recognition and respect in the industry, safe working conditions and lots of inspiration.
We have collected a few examples of female artists from behind and from the camera, who somehow captivated us with their work. Here they are:
Since we are talking about women associated with the world of film, it is impossible not to mention Agnieszka Holland. Our compatriot is a director and screenwriter known all over the world. She was nominated for an Oscar or BAFTA Awards, and she has, among others, The FIPRESCI Prize won at the Cannes Festival, Golden Globe, Silver Bear, Golden Lions or Czech Lion. She was also awarded the Commander’s Cross of the Order of Polonia Restituta and the Order of Princess Olga.
She began her career as an actress when she appeared in the film Illumination in 1973 . Three years later she made her debut behind the camera, creating for us Pictures of Life . In the same year, she directed and wrote the script for “A Evening at Abdon’s .” Her most important and well-known productions are undoubtedly Europe, Europe , The Secret Garden , Korczak , Oliver, Oliver , Lonely Woman , In the Dark , Burning Bush or Pokot . Agnieszka also has something to do with fantasy. After all, it was thanks to her that we could watch the series Rosemary’s Babywith Zoe Saldana in the lead role, the Polish series 1983 produced for Netflix or The First. Mission to Mars .
